Michael “Mike” Neal McCormack, age 64, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, due to an extended illness from COVID-19, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Santa Fe Baptist Church with Rusty Graham, Bro. Mike Shinn, Pastor Brian Talley, and Brother Dale Ledbetter officiating. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on January 30, 1957, in Columbia, Mike was the son of the late Richard McCormack and the late Avonelle Wright McCormack. He married Deborah Melton on September 1, 1990, and together they had two children, Jacob and Hannah. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Geology and earned his degree in respiratory care from Columbia State Community College. Mike worked as a respiratory therapist for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Cumberland Medical Center, and Maury Regional Medical Center. He was also a substitute teacher at Santa Fe School for five years. A true outdoorsman, he loved deer and elk hunting and the Rocky Mountains and was a gun and knife connoisseur. He was a member of Santa Fe Baptist Church where he was an assistant Sunday School teacher and on several committees. Mike loved the Lord, church, and his family, especially his children. If you were around Mike, you were guaranteed to be laughing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jacob McCormack, daughter, Hannah McCormack (Drew Colvett), brother, Stephen (Yong Mi) McCormack, aunts, Mary Margaret Henson, Sandy Graham, Karolyn Welty, and numerous cousins and friends.
