Michael “Mike” Frank Kittle, 76, passed away, peacefully, on Monday, March 30, 2015. Mike was born in Athens, Ohio in 1938 and raised in Glouster, Ohio, the son of a hard-working lumber mill owner and a loving mother. After two years in the military, Mike graduated from Ohio University and married his sweetheart, Saundra “Saundy” Kay Ringer in 1963 and the couple moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where Mike began his building career.
In 1975, Mike moved his family to the Burningtree Subdivision in Decatur, where Mike was actively building homes. Mike went on to operate Haysland Construction, Gentrac and Sheridan Builders for many years. Mike was involved in numerous development projects including Oak Lee and Point Mallard. Mike will always be remembered as a big, gruff, ruddy Irishman, whose bark was worse than his bite; a quick wit always with a funny remark; whose big personality was evenly matched by his big heart; who offered a job to anyone who needed one; and an endearing love for his family.
Mike was a member of the Burningtree Country Club, Decatur Country Club, the Kiwanis Club of Decatur, the National Association of Home Builders and First Bible Church of Decatur.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Saundy; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin and Curtis Ramsey, and Julie and Scott Shirah, all of Norcross, GA; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Carl Justus of Knoxville, TN; and grandchildren, Alec and Victoria Ramsey, Chase, Jess and Griffin Ramsey, and Zach, Will, Nate and Livvy Shirah.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Decatur Country Club on Saturday, April 11th from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Bible Church Missions Fund, the Neighborhood Christian Center or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) in Mike’s memory.
