Michael “Mike” Everett Stewart Sr., a stalwart figure in his community and a loving patriarch to his family, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on February 19, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama, Mike’s life was marked by his generosity, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. Mike was the beloved husband of Sharon Stewart for 51 years, an enduring testament to their love and commitment. Their bond was the foundation from which they built a loving family that includes their sons, Michael Everett (Ashley) Stewart Jr., and Paul Jamison Stewart. Mike’s legacy also continues through his three grandchildren, Michael Ian (Erin) Stewart, Jeanine “Skye” Stewart, and Rain Ann Ball. He was the rock of the family, always there to lend an ear or offer advice. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Everett “Doc” Stewart and Camilla Watkins Stewart, and his sister, Jeanine Stewart Cargile.

Mike’s professional journey was as varied as it was fulfilling. He served as a Customer Service Manager at Delta Air Lines, where he brought his natural charm and wit to every interaction for thirty-one years. He was also a dedicated local politician, serving as Alderman in Fayetteville, Tennessee. His passion for service was a testament to his selfless nature, always striving to improve the lives of those in his community. An avid Alabama Football fan, Mike enjoyed both SEC and NFL Football, often sharing his love for the game with family and friends. His hobbies also extended to the great outdoors, where he found peace and tranquility in birdwatching and fishing. Never one to be a stranger, Mike’s magnetic personality drew people to him. His wit and humor were matched only by his wisdom and kindness, traits that he generously shared with those around him. Mike’s service to his country was another proud chapter in his life. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era, demonstrating bravery, dedication, and patriotism. His service to his country reflected his character, one marked by strength and resilience. Mike’s generosity and thoughtfulness extended beyond his family and friends. He was a friend to all, always ready with a warm smile or a kind word. He was known to listen intently, valuing the thoughts and opinions of others, and often offering insightful advice. His love for his grand-dogs, Marley, Blookey, and Copper, was a testament to his gentle and caring nature.

In remembering Mike, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by love, service, and a deep commitment to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those he touched with his generosity, his thoughtfulness, and his selfless spirit. Michael “Mike” Everett Stewart Sr. was a shining example of how to live a life of purpose and meaning. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 2:30 PM at The River Church of God in Guntersville, Alabama, with Pastor Keith Stanford and Pastor Leslie Lupton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 PM until the time of service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huntsville Humane Society or The River Church of God in Guntersville, Alabama, in honor of Mike.
