Michael JL Smith, age 76 of Cowan, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He was born in Winchester on February 9, 1948, to the late Charnel Smith and Georgia (Woodard) Smith. Micheal was retired from Shaw Industries after forty years of employment where he worked as a supervisor. His hobbies included playing golf, hunting, working in his yard, and most of all, being with his family. Michael also loved watching his westerns on television and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers in all sports. Michael will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others in need. He never held a grudge and always made sure family came first. Michael attended the Estill Springs Church of God. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Charnel Smith Jr., Jerry F. Smith, Sharon Smith, Mary Smith, Martha Robinson; and son, Michael James Smith. Michael is survived by his wife of twenty eight years, Portia Smith; children, Vickie Smith, Jamie (Kristy) Smith; stepchildren, Misty (Denny) Edde, Jason (Kelly) Evans, Casey Evans; grandchildren, Drew (Alicia) Smith, Whitley Smith, Aaron Goff, Madalyn Edde, Jessica Edde, Kobe (Courtney) Evans, Chase (Hope) Corn, Jayden Cooper, Brooklyn Evans, Emma Evans, Sophie Evans; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Pickett, James Smith; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 5pm-8pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 3pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Brother Don Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.
