Michael Jade Whitt, a resident of Abbeville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 40.
Celebration of Life services for Brother Mike will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at First Baptist Church Abbeville with Reverends Ryan Johnson, Ricky Sowell, Matt Hawkins and Scott Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. prior to the service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Abbeville Building Program or the International Mission Board.
Brother Mike was born December 27, 1972, in Abilene, Texas, to J.D. and Martha Jane Hargrave Whitt. He was a 1995 graduate of Auburn University and a 1999 graduate of Southern Theological Seminary. Brother Mike served Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood for six years as his first pastorate and has been serving First Baptist Church for the last eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Whitt, Abbeville; three daughters and one son, Elizabeth Grace, Lydia Eden, Julia Elaine and Jonathan Davis Whitt, all of Abbeville; sister, Joan Whitt Pirtle, Decatur, and a brother, James Donald Whitt, Belmont, Miss.; father and mother-in-law, Gerry and Carolyne Davis, Enterprise; brother-in-law, Michael Davis, Birmingham; several nieces and nephews.
