Michael J ” Mike” Streeter passed away peacefully, of natural causes at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He lived a remarkable life. Born May 27, 1938, in St Paul, Minnesota. He was adopted by Sylvia and John Pieper. Sylvia was a nurse and John a petroleum engineer. They lived in Worthington Minnesota. John passed when Michael was 3 years old. His mom, Sylvia, later remarried Lowell B Streeter, a watch maker, and Michael was adopted again. This is where he got the name Streeter.
Mike graduated from Worthington High School in 1956. After a few local jobs on the railroad and at Caterpillar Tractor Co., he and a friend went down to the local recruiter and enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country for 30 years stationed all over Europe and a few years in the U.S. While in Germany he loved volksmarching, time with family, running, fishing, skiing and summers with friends in Spain. He retired in the late 1980s on Redstone Arsenal as an E-9/Command Seargent Major (CSM). 3rd Battalion 71st ADA missile defense.
After retirement he enrolled at Athens State where he received his master’s degree inAccounting, graduating summa cum laude. He never worked as a CPA; he just wanted to challenge himself and obtain a degree. His remaining years were spent reading history books, traveling to his wife’s home country of Germany, spending time with family, but mostly fishing every chance he could and with anyone that would go. He met tons of fishing friends while a member of Huntland, TN fishing club.
Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Heidi Zillhardt Streeter; children, Shari Ann Streeter Gravatt (Ernest “Skip” Gravatt), Jamie Michael Turner, Jeffery Brian Smith (Francine Walker Smith), Deborah Sharon Smith and Susan Streeter Smith (Jeremy S Smith); grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher, James, Jodi, Abigail, Gabby, Emily, Joshua, Jeffery, Ja’ce, Jerius, Jason, Jarrett, Julian, Shay and Jacob; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two of his children, Laurie Michelle Streeter (Grissman) and Connie Leigh Streeter (Minck/Fowler).
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
