Funeral services for Mrs. Micah Jean Smith Sparks, age 91 of Lineville, will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Micah Jean Smith Sparks was born April 10, 1933 in Clay County, Alabama. She was the first of three girls born to James R. Smith and Verna G. Orr Smith. She passed away July 29, 2024. Micah Jean attended school in Lineville, graduating from Lineville High in 1951 as valedictorian. She was active during high school as a cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, and Beta Club President as well as many club memberships.

Micah was very involved in church at an early age, teaching Sunday school, serving on committees and singing in the choir. She was a member of Lineville United Methodist Church and later Barfield Baptist Church.

She married the love of her life, Lloyd F. Sparks, on September 15, 1951. During Lloyd’s military career, they were stationed in Falmouth, Massachusetts and San Luis Obispo, California, and came to reside in Talladega, Alabama afterwards. Lineville was their final move in 1963. Micah and Lloyd owned and operated the Fair Store in Lineville for 33 years, retiring in 1996.

Mrs. Micah Sparks is survived by sons, Michael F. Sparks (Sheila) and James W. Sparks (Denise) all of Lineville: Loving sister Charlene Yates and brother-in-law, Kenneth Yates of Birmingham; niece Teresa Yates; grandchildren: Amy Hassett, Deana Jenkins, Micah Knott, Russell Sparks; seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Smith and Verna Gay Orr Smith, her beloved husband of 70 years, Lloyd Sparks, and one sister, Beverly Ann Smith.

The pallbearers for Mrs. Sparks will be Russell Sparks, Anthony Jenkins, Rob Hassett, Bragg Knott, Wesley Sparks, and Trent Sparks. Honorary pallbearers will be The Joy Club.

Visitation for Mrs. Sparks will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 5:30-8:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at Barfield Baptist Church.
