Mrs. Merleu K. Johnson Mrs. Merleu K. Johnson of Horton peacefully passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on January 23, 1930, to the late George and Ruth Kemp, Merleu’s life was one of dedication, love, and service to both her family and her community.
Merleu was a devout member of the Oak Grove Church of Horton, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She served as a board member for the Oak Grove Perpetual Cemetery Committee, embodying her commitment to preserving the memory of those who had gone before her.
Merleu was a dedicated homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family to thrive in. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who entered her home. Merleu was a skilled seamstress and past poultry farmer. Yet, her greatest joy came from her family, their love and presence brought her immeasurable happiness throughout her life.
Merleu is survived by her loving children: Barbara Sisk, David Johnson (Peggy), Larry Johnson (Freda), Dennis Johnson (Teresa), and Teresa Brannon (Tim), as well as her son-in-law, Anthony Deerman. Her legacy also lives on through her 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is additionally mourned by her niece, Donna Jenkins (Charlie), her cousin Myrna Duke Kinzalow, and her special friend, Renee Epps.
In addition to her parents, Merleu is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Johnson, her daughter Fredia Johnson, and three siblings.
A funeral service to honor Merleu’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Bro. Randy Barns, Bro. James Bridges, and Bro. Verlon Wilmon.
Pallbearers, chosen to assist Merleu to her final resting place at Oak Grove Cemetery, include Joe Winfrey, George Bridges, Jeremy Johnson, Josh Johnson, Leo Johnson, Josh Smith, Jacob Brannon, Matthew Brannon, and Bo Brannon.
The family welcomes flowers or donations to Oak Grove Cemetery, 184 Johnson Road, Horton, Al. 35980 or Shepherds Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Road, Albertville, Al. 35950 in Merleu’s memory.
