On April 24, 2017, Merita Carpenter Watson, went to be with her Lord after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her life, she strived to live a life that honored “her” Jesus. By all accounts, she surpassed that goal. Merita blessed everyone she met and will be sorely missed. She’d be the first to say that she is rejoicing in heaven and was truly humbled by the people who ministered to her and her family.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. Merita was born on October 2, 1949 in Pulaski, Tennessee and lived in Athens, Huntsville, and Decatur, Alabama and San Jose, California. She worked at Intergraph, 3DLabs and Westwind.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Watson; a wonderful daughter, Jade Watson; and a delightful grand-daughter, Ezri Watson; and her mother, Clara Morgan. She has two sisters: Phyllis Holley (Craig) and Janice Lanier (Sidney) and a brother, Ricky Carpenter (Rebecca).

She was preceded in death by her father, Ambrose Carpenter, and her step-father, Tom Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers: Patsy Johnson, Vickie Sledge, Carol Craft, Stacia Huff, Lisa Davis, Joan Wenth, and Dianne Jeffries.

After a private graveside service, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Central Baptist Church, Decatur, Alabama (2801 Highway 31 South), on Thurs 4/27 at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, 15 South Franklin Street, New Ulm, MN 56073.
