Merilyn Ann Smith Slatton, 77, of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, September 7, 2024. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Barry Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Pisgah Cemetery.
Born on July 26, 1947 to Vernon and Louise Grimes Smith in Lauderdale County, Merilyn Ann was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Central High School in 1967. On November 5, 1971 Merilyn married Henry Boyd Slatton. They moved to Colbert County and built a life together. Mrs. Slatton was preceded in death by her aforementioned husband and parents, as well as brothers Meredith and Aubrey Smith.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Thomason (Greg); son, Jeffery Slatton (Ashley); grandsons, Shannon Campbell and Alex Campbell (Gayla); great-grandchildren, Willa Campbell, Zeke Campbell, and Casey Campbell; siblings, Jimmy Smith (Shirley), Ellis Smith, and Audrey Weeks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be John Futrell, Nic Stell, Shawn Smith, Patrick Smith, Billy Smith, and Jerry Hayes.
The family gratefully acknowledges the kind care offered by the staff of Keller Landing (particularly Ashley, Morgan, Bethany, and Jo), Alabama Hospice of the Shoals (especially Michelle), Cypress Cove Nursing and Rehab, Enhabit Home Health and special friend Tiffany Timmons.
