Melvin “Pokey”Richter – Obituary

Melvin “Pokey”Richter, 82, of Muscle Shoals, passed away May 14, 2013.

Visitation will be Thursday May 16, from 4-8 at Colbert Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.. Friday May 17 in the chapel. Burial will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Retired Military Chaplin and family friend, Paul Mason, will be officiating

the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Emma Scott Richter, of Iron City, Tenn.; brother, Joe Richter, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; and sister, Lorene Buttrum, of Iron City, Tenn.

Melvin is survived by his wife Dorothy “Dot” Richter, of Muscle Shoals;

four sons, Tony Richter and wife, Rhonda, of Pensacola, Fla., Terry Richter and wife, Carmen, of Killen, Steven Richter and wife Saralyn, of Vestavia, Ala., Stacy Richter and wife, Kelly, of Pensacola, Fla.;

nine grandchildren, Adam Richter and wife, Tracie, Savanna Richter and husband, Alex Kricosheyev, Nicole Richter Thorp and husband, Andy, Audrey Tyler Richter, Dalton Richter, Ashlyn Richter, Alley Richter, Lanie Richter and Rick Richter;

two great-grandchildren, Kam Richter and Elsie Thorp;

brother, Clyde Richter, of Iron City, Tenn.; sister, Polly Richardson, of Columbus, Ga.;

a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Melvin was originally from Iron City, Tenn., and a graduate of Loretto High School.

He served three years in the United States Army and retired from Reynolds Aluminum after 38 years of faithful service.

He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
