Melvin Eugene Selby, 74, of Decatur died Sunday at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rudy Guess officiating. Interment will be in the Limestone Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Selby was born June 16, 1940, in Illinois to Frederick and Marjorie Smith Selby. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion; member of the Forty & Eight and Fraternity Order of the Eagles and retired from the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Selby; daughters, Susan DeFrates of Springfield, Illinois, Cindy Stelte of Springfield, Illinois, Carol Graham of Auburn, Illinois, Melody Jablonski of St. Louis, Missouri; stepson, Donald Beshears of Decatur; stepdaughter, Belinda Rossi of Decatur; brothers, Fred Selby of Florida, Andrew Selby of Sherman, Illinois, Wayne Selby of Huntsville; sisters, Verla Parkhurst of Petersburg, Illinois, Penny Newman of Santa Anna, Calf.; half sister, Cara Morris of Virginia, Illinois; and 10 grandchildren.
