Funeral for Melvin Dean Mixon Sr., 82, of Decatur will be today, December 19, 2013, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Rudy Guess officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Mixon, who died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born September 18, 1931, in Vidalia, Georgia, to Earl and Myrtle Moss Mixon. He was retired from Barclays American Financial after 37 years of service. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Norman Scott Mixon; and one grandson, James David Mixon Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Judith C. Mixon; three sons, Melvin Dean Mixon (Christine) of Florence, S.C., James David Mixon (Rebecca) and Samuel Steven Mixon, both of Decatur; one sister, Dorothy Parker of Lumberton, N.C.; three grandchildren, Hunter Arnold, Michael Tyler Gooch and Whitney Rebecca Mixon; and one great-grandson, William Mason Arnold.
Pallbearers will be Jack Bradford, George Hartselle, Greg Moore, Hank Burleson, Hunter Arnold and Steve Cox.
