Melvin A. Langley, 81, died peacefully in his home on June 22, 2024, after an extended illness. Although Melvin was born in Benton County, Ms, he lived most of his life in Tupelo. He was raised in East Tupelo, attended Lawhon School and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1961. At an early age, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and became a member of East Heights Baptist Church. Most of his career was spent in the trucking industry from driving trucks to managing trucks to working dispatch and logistics. Melvin was interested in many things during his life including horses, model trains, woodworking, water skiing, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Arlene Coggin Langley; his three wonderful children, Terry Langley (Junann), Elizabeth Wriston (Dean), and Mac Davis (Renee); eight equally wonderful grandchildren, Tim Langley, Misty Galvin, Jennifer Modlin (John), Kyle Wriston (Kristian), Claire Davis, Lakyn Slay (JT), Megan Davis, and Brooke Davis; nine great-grandchildren, Ian, Jace, Olivia, Charlotte, Emily, Addie Kate, Sarah, Bentley, and Kyliegh; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Lorene Lucile Langley; his sisters, Murene Clark (Louis) and Kathryn Parham (Dennis); and a grandchild, Stephanie Wriston.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday, June 29, 2024, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2024, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Tupelo with Rev. Jay White officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
