Melva D. Wilson, 87, of Double Springs, entered into rest on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at her home surrounded by loving family.
Melva was born on December 7, 1929 in the Upshaw Community. She was a graduate of the Class of 1948 at Winston County High School. She was a long time member of First Baptist Double Springs, where she served as Sunday School teacher, nursery worker and church treasurer. Melva retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, where she worked for 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, working in her flower beds and canning. She was known by many as “Pud”.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 6-9pm at First Baptist Church, Double Springs, where services will be held Tuesday at 11am. Brother Donnie Carroll, Brother Bill Frank Wilson and Elizabeth Gilbreath will officiate. Burial will follow at Double Springs Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth W. Gilbreath and her husband Jon; sisters, Buna Warren, Emma Dean Foretich, and Peggy Patterson and her husband Raven; caregiver and friend, Mary Veal; friend, Jennifer Seymour; friend, Sheila Wallace; she was “Grammy” to 3 grandchildren, Tennyson Claire Gilbreath; Samantha Sloan Gilbreath and Alizabeth Paiten Gilbreath; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. “Brother Frank” Wilson; parents, Gertrude and Parker Denton; brothers Ralph, Gilbert, and Rayburn Denton.
