Melody Cathey – Obituary

Melody Cathey, 62, of Meridianville passed away at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born in Dickson, Tennessee, daughter of the late James Clifford Hooper and precedes in passing, her mother Billie Climer Hooper.

Melody was a graduate of Grissom High School 1972. She then furthered her education as an alumni at Auburn University 1978. During that time she became a sorority sister of Gamma Phi Beta. She was a Past President of the Huntsville Emblem Club 166, Past State President Alabama Association of Emblem Clubs, Past Supreme President Emblem Club of the United States of America, Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1648. She was was Treasurer on the Board of Directors for THIN LINE SUPPORT. She was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. She was an active member of the Twickenham Church of Christ.

Melody Cathey loved friends as family, but she loved her family the deepest. She was known for collecting her crescent moons, because of her sorority sisters. She was also known for saying “I love you to the moon and back.” She was always willing to lend a hand to anybody in need of her help. Her pleasures were singing karaoke, travel, painting, shopping, while her favorite holiday was Halloween.

Melody is survived by her husband of 36 years: Allen Cathey; Her brothers: Michael Hooper and wife: Tammy Hooper, Texas and Mark Hooper and wife: Kathy Hooper, Hazel Green; Her sister: Marte Hooper Young and husband: Jimmy Young, Huntsville; Also survived by nieces: Monica Land and her husband: Bobby, Meridianville, Leslie Fincher of Huntsville, Tracy Tucker and her husband: Chris, Henegar, Lauren Cathey, and Alexandria Curran and husband: Timothy; Her nephews include: Jay Fincher and his wife: Megan, Michigan. Alex Cathey, Jr. and Barrett Cathey. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Twickenham Church of Christ followed by a funeral service at 1:00p.m. at the church with Jodie Vickery officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Meridianville with Berryhill Funeral Home directing. The family request in lieu of flowers, make a donation to the Alabama State Association of Emblem Clubs or the American Cancer Society.
