Melinda D. Edwards, 66, of Davenport, IA, formerly of Decatur, was taken too soon on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Melinda passed at Genesis Medical Center with her loving husband by her side. A memorial service was held Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Runge Mortuary Chapel in Davenport.
She was born on February 18, 1949 in Thomasville, GA to Howard and Grace Dees. She was united in marriage to Don Edwards on June 9, 1986 in Davenport. Melinda, having recently retired from Genesis Medical Center, enjoyed fishing, golfing and anything outdoors. She loved spending the last three winters in Mesa, AZ, where she hoped she and her husband Don would retire.
Melinda was preceded in death by her father, Howard Dees of Decatur, who nurtured her love for the outdoors, her niece, Rebecca Dees of South Carolina and both sets of grandparents, Edgar and Lorena Henson of Decatur and Jesse and Malzie Peacock of Bonifay, Florida.
She is survived by her loving husband, Don; daughters, Sabrina Gomez, Killen, TX, and Christy M. Jeffries, San Lorenzo, CA; mother and stepfather, Grace and Troy Smith, Decatur; brother, Ronald Dees (Mary), North Augusta, SC; sisters, Susan Dees (Mike) Tidwell and Rita Dees Weeks, both of Decatur; nephews, Christopher Dees, North Augusta, SC, and Michael (Stephanie) Tidwell, Hoover; niece, Nicole Tidwell (Kevin) Mulvaney, Royal Oak, MI; aunt and uncle, Ilene and Robert King, Germantown, TN; and cousin, Kimberly King (Scott) Brothers, Germantown, TN.
