Photo of Melessia Johnson Melessia Ann Boyles Johson, age 67 of Haleyville, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 9, 1957 to Lee Elton “Doc” and Virginia Inez “Mickie” Boyles. Melessia was passionate about researching genealogy. She was an avid reader who enjoyed Native American studies and bibliophiles. Melissa was a 1975 graduate of Haleyville High School. She continued perusing her education at the University of North Alabama, where she graduated in 1979 earning her Bachelor’s Degree. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 31, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Brother Steton Hayes will officiate. Melessia is survived by her husband, Edbert Johnson; sons, Griffin Reed (Ashley Odom) and Cory Reed; stepchildren, Chris (Melissa) Johnson, Amber (Cody) Thompson, and Heather Williams; grandchildren, Noah, Weston, and Sadie Reed, Hayden Reid, Erabella Jones, Abel and Leonna Thompson, Lucky, Morgan, and Autumn Young; and Bryson Johnson; brothers, Randy (Sandy) Boyles and Mike (Jennifer) Boyles; sister, Phyllis Alexander; neices, LeeAnn, Abby, Sheena, and Samantha; and nephews, Randy, Ronnie, and Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Mickie Boyles; and grandparents, I.V. and Viola King, and Leon and Addie Mae Boyles. The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to all those who cared for Melessia during the past few months, and a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice.
