Melba Irene Burt, 92 of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, at her residence. Mrs. Burt was born on September 15th, 1931, to Louis Williams and Lucy Ann Parker Williams.
Mrs. Burt is survived by her children Diane Gilliam (Steve), of Athens, David Burt, of Vinemont, and Kay Rittenberry (John), of Decatur; grandchildren Craig Gilliam (Stephanie), Jason Gilliam (Bethany), Heather Meredith (Jarron “Tooter), Brad Adams, Melissa Drawbond (Daniel), Julia Fenner (Jerome), Nicholas Burt, Matthew Burt, Bobby Burt, and Jessica Heimon (Keith); brothers Gene Williams (Betty), David Williams (Linda); and a host of great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, several brothers, and husband.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burt will be Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00-1:50pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Limestone Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Nolen Meredith, Bobby Burt, Jarron “Tooter” Meredith, Craig Gilliam, Connor Winters, Blake Gilliam, Jarron Meredith, and Jason Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Burt, Matthew Burt, Trace Cole, Daniel Drawbond, and Brad Adams.
Born to Louis and Lucy Ann Parker Williams, on Septer 15th, 1931, Mrs. Burt was one of 13 children. She was married to the late David Edward Burt on March 9th, 1952. She was a faithful member of Emmanual Baptist church for around 60 years. She worked at several places in Athens until her retirement. At that time, she became a caregiver.
The family of Mrs. Burt would like to thank Hospice of Limestone County and multiple caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Limestone County, where Mrs. Burt had the privilege of being served.
