Graveside service for Mrs. Melba Collins Pruitt Hill, age 96, of Gallatin, formerly of Delina and Lakeland, TN, will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Wright’s Cemetery, with Bro. Tim Strickland officiating.
Melba was born on July 25, 1928, in Lincoln County, TN to the late George Morgan and Margaret Trantham Collins. Melba enjoyed reading the Bible early every morning. She worked at Serbin Mfg. Company for over twenty years as a sewing operator. She worked at Cosmo Lab, Unity School, and the Marriott in Memphis, TN. Melba was a devoted mother to her three children. They were a very special and dear part of her life. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Melba was a lover of flowers, liked to work puzzles, read, and go shopping and out to eat with her friends. She was a member of Delina Church of Christ prior to moving to Memphis, where she became a member of the Great Oaks Church of Christ, later she moved to Gallatin and was a member of the Nashville Road Church of Christ. Melba passed away on October 16, 2024, at NHC in Gallatin.
Survivors include her sons, John Morgan (Cathy Hicks) Pruitt of Goodlettsville and Larry Douglas Pruitt of Ashland City; son-in-law, Johnny Allen Brown of Memphis-Arlington, TN; three grandchildren, Shelley (Rodney) Birdwell of Portland, TN, Shane (Melissa) Pruitt, and Rachel Jean (Dwayne) Hart of Munford, TN; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Pruitt in 1961 and Clifford Hill in 1993; daughter, Donna Jean Pruitt Brown; and siblings, Leonard Collins, Milus Collins, Aileen Collins Wright, Marie Collins Tallent, Georgia Faye Collins Tucker, and Fred Morgan Collins; and daughter-in-law, Collette Pruitt.
Visitation with the family will be from 12 PM until 2 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Higgins Funeral Home.
