Melba “”Betty” Lowe WHITTEMORE, age 94, of Southside, Alabama passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Funeral services will be at 1pm Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Reeves Grove Baptist Church, in the Whitney area of Steele. Bro. Lauil Thompson will officiate. Mrs. Whittemore will be laid to rest in Reeves Grove Cemetery , 11879 US Hwy 11, Steele, AL. Collier Butler will direct service.
Mrs. Whittemore was a native of St. Clair County and later became a resident of Southside, Alabama, where she and her husband raised their family. She had retired from MidSouth Industries after 25 years of service. Mrs. Whittemore was a praying Christian woman. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Southside and attended until her health would no longer allow. She was loved by all who knew her and she loved her community.
Mrs. Whittemore is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Deuel Whittemore; son, Jack Whittemore; her parents; and four brothers.
She is survived by her sister Bonnie Peterson of Whitney, AL; her children Johnny (Diane) Whittemore of Pinson, Jimmy (Tammie) Whittemore of Southside, and Jan Abernathy of Attalla, AL . She was blessed with ten grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The family would like to express their thanks to the Nurses and staff of Kindred Hospice for their tender care of their precious mother for the last seven years.
