Melanie Maxine Capps Morton was a loving wife of Joseph Morton since December 17, 2005. She brought joy to all who met her. She was a retired school teacher who taught and worked with the hearing impaired for the Madison County School System for 29 years. She graduated from Grissom High School in 1979, and from the University of Montevallo in 1983. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at six years old. The family has been faithful members of Whitesburg Baptist Church (WBC) since 1966. Melanie helped found and grow the special needs ministry and ministry for the deaf at WBC. She also volunteered for many mission opportunities. Melanie was a faithful soldier for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Other hobbies and interests included genealogy, crafts, baking, crocheting, and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by an infant brother Chris Alan Capps and infant nephew Hunter Earl Hoffman. She is survived by her husband, Joe Morton; parents, Melvin and Wanda Capps; sister, Christy Hoffman; brother, Chris Capps; niece, Brandy Hoffman; nephews, Blake Hoffman, Trey Hoffman, and Joshua Morton; great-nephew, James; and great-niece Lyla. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 9 at Whitesburg Baptist Church Main Campus. She will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10 at the church main campus, followed by the funeral service with Dr. Darryl Craft and Dr. Jason Graves officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Sign Language interpreters will be available. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center or the Downtown Rescue Mission.
