FLORENCE-Mayor Andrew Betterton and Parks and Recreation Director Bill Jordan are pleased to announce that the City of Florence is nearing completion of the McFarland Park Master Plan process. The plan is an action-oriented strategy for upgrading McFarland Park created by the community’s vision for the park.
A project presentation and community open house event for the public will be held on Tuesday, November 8 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pmat The Mane Room (310 N Pine St, Florence, AL 35630).
At the open house, the design team from Goodwyn Mills Cawood will present the plan, including elements such as an expanded marina and RV Park, improved festival grounds, a new fishing pier, and many others.
The goal of the master plan is to build upon the many assets and attractions currently located in the park while reimagining how new and improved amenities can maximize utilization of the park to bolster its status as both a local community park and a regional attraction. The draft plan has been carefully crafted through a combination of technical expertise with extensive input from local leaders and stakeholders as well as the general public. The project aims to further activate the park’s waterfront and natural areas in order to strengthen Florence’s position as an active riverfront community.
Approximately 2,500 citizens have already contributed to this process through online surveys. Although the plan is nearing completion, this event is an important opportunity to voice your opinions. This is a public process, and the city wants to involve as many citizens as possible. If you have not yet been involved in the process, this open house event is one of the final remaining opportunities to contribute your thoughts before the plan is finalized.
Mayor Betterton emphasized, “We look forward to presenting the draft plan to the public as this important process nears completion. Community input drives the overall development of the park master plan and is vital to McFarland Park’s long-term success. This is a great chance for the community to share their values, vision, and hopes for the park’s future. We are excited to hear from you, the citizens, so that we can work together as a team to secure a brighter future for our city.”
