Mrs. Day, who died Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Huntsville Hospital, was born in Lawrence County, AL to William R. Young and Edna Roberts Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Helen Jackson, and two brothers, Bob Young and Jack Young. Mrs. Day was one of eleven children, and cherished her memories of growing up in Landersville, AL.

Mrs. Day was married to Bobby G. Day on September 1, 1956. They had just celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary at the time of her death. Together they had three children and seven grandchildren: Donna Day Johnson and husband Larry, and their son, Garrison; Denisa Day Novick and children, Alex (Nathan), Celena, and Bryant; and Shawn Garrison Day and wife, Lisa, and their children, Ella, Savannah, and Samuel. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Judah Blaine Bishop.

She is also survived by her twin sister, Faye Rutherford, and four sisters, Joan Lang, Jane Rains, Ann Black, and Ruth Mardis; two brothers, Jerry Young and David Young; and many nephews and nieces. She loved her brothers and sisters with all her heart, and she considered their spouses and children as her own.

Mrs. Day was a faithful member of 16th Avenue Baptist Church in Decatur for over 55 years. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ very much, and served him until her last breath.

Mrs. Day was raised in Landersville, AL. She received her education within the Lawrence County School System and attended Lawrence County High School. After high school, she studied shorthand and typing at the urging of her father. She used those skills in her capacity as an administrative assistant at Prestolite Corporation, from which she retired on July 31, 1997, after 29 years of service.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Day, Alex Bishop, Nathan Bishop, Garrison Johnson, Celena Novick, Bryant Novick, Ella Day, Savannah Day, and Samuel Day.

Mrs. Day’s family will remember her always as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. We were blessed to have her in our lives. We are comforted by our belief that we will see her again, and by the outpouring of love and support that we have received.
