Maxine Smallwood Martin – Obituary

Funeral service for Maxine Smallwood Martin age 69 of Decatur will be Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00am at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Pitts officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service time on Saturday morning.

Ms. Martin, who was born on April 16, 1944 in Hartselle, Alabama to Arthur and Blanche Smallwood, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Cullman Regional Medical Center, after losing her battle with Dementia. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister; Pat Lindsey. Maxine worked many years at Lowes Home Improvement in Decatur, retiring in 2009. She always said that Lowes was one of the best jobs she ever had! She loved working with the employees at Lowes and the Community here in Decatur. She was a resident at Cullman Healthcare Center.

She is survived by a son; Timothy Wayne Martin of Hartselle, 2 daughters; Vickie Martin Sharp and her husband Dudley of Hartselle and Cindy Diane Martin of Decatur. 1 Granddaughter; Reagan Leigh Martin of Decatur, 2 brothers; Jerry Smallwood and Scotty Smallwood, both of Hartselle and 1 sister; Becky Stringer and her husband Phillip of Hartselle.

The family would like to say thank-you to her cousin; Sue McDonald, for her unwavering help and support as Maxine’s caregiver during her time spent at home, along with Amedisys Home Health Care and Elder Care.

I lieu of flowers, the family would like for Memorials to be made to the Morgan County Mental Health Association, www.mhainmc.net, the Alzheimer’s Program.
