Mr. Max “Wayne” Montgomery of Bartlett passed away at Methodist Hospital in Germantown on June 20, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family. He was born January 6, 1939 in Sardis, TN to the late Norman and Gertrude Wade Montgomery. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and had talents ranging from singing in a quartet to working on industrial equipment. He was dedicated and committed to excelling and took multiple classes for excelling in all of his passions. He married Glenda Bridges Montgomery on March 16, 1962 and was a loving and devoted husband and father. Mr. Montgomery worked for Sears for over 40 years, eventually becoming manager over their largest distribution warehouse. He also taught at a community trade school and was a member of the Sardis Antique Farm and Tractor Club.
He loved spending time with his wife and family at their property in Sardis. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, and collecting David Bradley tractor and license plates. He restored old cars, tractors, clocks, and furniture. He could fix anything! He was kind hearted and loving, always willing to help others when needed. A man of few words, but you always knew where you stood with him. He was an amazing man, and to his family, Superman!
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Glenda Montgomery; his two daughters, Donna Pesce (Paul) and Janet Jackson Chapman (Tony); five grandchildren, Nicholas Pesce (Mandy), Courtney Bien (Alex), Chris Jackson, Will Chapman, and Colin Chapman; and five great grandchildren, Gabriel, Cordelia, Jemmalyn, Dallas, and Stella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mr. Melvin Montgomery.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 11 AM – 12 PM at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington.
