Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Joey Johnson officiating. Burial will be in White Hall Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 pm until 3 pm Tuesday.
Max was born west of Trenton, Tennessee on April 15, 1938, to Mr. Paul and Mrs. Pauline Lancaster. His older sisters, Patsy and Peggy, were excited to have a baby brother. He enjoyed a wonderful life on the farm working alongside his father and mother. Max graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1956 where he played basketball, was an active member in 4-H, and was known to all his friends as “Half.”
After graduation, Max went to work at Brown Shoe Company in Trenton where he worked for 33 years. He fell in love with and married Linda Hilliard, and they were blessed with three beautiful sons – Paul Alan, Roy Thomas, and Michael David. In addition to his career at Brown Shoe, he was a farmer, and he helped build several homes in and around Trenton. Perhaps the job he loved the most was the time he spent as a commercial fisherman.
In 1981 Max married Linda Prince, and they were married until her death in 2022. Max lived his life as a kind man who fiercely loved his family and friends. He was blessed with 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. His kids and grandchildren loved their “Pop,” and they will miss his laughter and kindhearted jokes. Everyone will miss how he loved to host a good fish fry.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pauline, his beloved son Tommy, his second wife Linda, and two grandsons – Tyler Howell and Erick Perches.
He is survived by his son Paul Lancaster and wife Stacey, his son David Lancaster, and his second bunch of kids – Tammy Murdock, Brenda Pangrazio, Monika Prince, Jeri Prince, Steve Prince, and John Prince. He is also survived by his sisters, Patsy Cathey and Peggy Oates and a lot of loving nieces and nephews. Last but certainly not least, he leaves a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved every one of them completely.
Eight of his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. They are Max Whitwell Lancaster, Jon Robert Lancaster, Thomas Levi Lancaster, Jacob Dylan Lancaster, Mark Howell, John Davis Prince, Miller Prince, and Major Prince.
Max was a Christian and a member of Whitehall Baptist Church.
