Photo of Maurine Watkins Maurine Moss Watkins passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025 with her family by her side. She was born June 21, 1936 on Mossy Island, Mississippi to parents Bennie and Esther Moss. Maurine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her passing is a huge loss to all those that loved and knew her. Maurine will be remembered for her warm beautiful smile, engaging and endearing personality, and genuine compassion for others. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, boating, swimming and spending time with her family and friends. She had a huge heart for the love and care of all children, teaching kindergarten for 19 years and volunteering in the church nursery for over 20 years. She was also a dedicated philanthropist giving lifelong support to organizations that helped children with basic needs or life-threatening illnesses. She touched and blessed the lives of many. All those that had the fortune to know her were changed by her presence. Her faith and love of God were the cornerstone of everything she accomplished in life. Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at Arley First Baptist Church, where a service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Brother Mike Goforth will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Green, Dennis Moss, Kenneth Moss, Larry Moss, Ronnie Moss and Wayne Moss. Maurine is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe Watkins; son, Joseph Watkins; daughter, Lisa Watkins; grandson, Joel Watkins; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie G. and Esther V. Moss; brothers, A.D. Moss, Earlee Moss, Jerry Moss, Jairl Moss, Leo Moss and Vester Moss; and sister, Dot Green. In lieu of flowers, help a child in need or make a donation to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
