It is with bittersweet sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maureen Rose Violett – or the name those who knew and loved her by: Gran.

Gran was born on June 21st, 1938, in London, England where she was raised by her mother, Rose Bangle, alongside her younger sister, Linda Drewell. It is there she met the love of her life Duane Violett, Sr. while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They were soon married, and our Gran added another flower to her name.

She shared her birthplace with their firstborn, Duane Violett, Jr., and the couple later moved to Germany where their daughter, Linda Violett, was born. The blossoming family moved overseas to the United States and planted their roots in Huntsville, Alabama – the area where most of the family still resides.

Gran is survived by her son, Duane Violett, Jr.; daughter, Linda Violett Coulliette; daughter in-law, Rebecca Violett; son in-law, Robert Coulliette; grandchildren, Jonathan McElyea, Ryan Hanna and Erika Violett; and great-grandchildren, Dillion, Aria and Elise McElyea.

Gran knew that the precious moments and sweet beginnings of life would not be possible without the somber respites and bitter endings. It is through her humor and dedication to family that the seeds of her joy will sprout and her love will live on.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. wife, Jamie Nunez officiating. Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park.
