Mattie Speck, 83, went to meet her Lord Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in the Auburn Community on March 24, 1930 to John and Georgia Christian Williams. She graduated from Tupelo High School. Her joy in life was taking care of others and spending time with her friends. She was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and put her heart and soul into whatever she did. She believed that there was nothing you couldn’t do and her smile and laughter would brighten up the room. She was a charter and faithful member of Sherman Church of Christ for many years and worked for Red Line Grocery for over 30 years until she was forced to retire a few years ago due to health complications. Her race is finished with no more pain as she walks the streets of gold.
Services will be 2 PM Tuesday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Minister John Connell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Harry Speck of Sherman; her daughter, Shelia Strunk (Lindell) of Sherman; her grandson, Joshua Strunk (Tina) of Plantersville; one sister-in-law, Georgia Lee Speck of Sherman; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.
