Mattie Lou Qualls Marlar, age 84, of Brownsville, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Bells Nursing Home after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 12:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, 1280 S. Dupree Ave, Brownsville, TN. Burial will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Visitation will be at 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home Chapel. Ms. Mattie was born February 27, 1938. She was an incredible seamstress and amazing cook. She enjoyed gardening with her husband and spending time with family and friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Louise Qualls, her husband of 49 years Paul Marlar, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by four children: Mike Marlar (Jean) of Brownsville, Ken Marlar (Susan) of Trenton, Janet Marlar England (Denny) of Franklin and Gary Marlar (Dana) of Bossier City, LA; brother Billy Qualls ( Dorothy) of Bells; and sisters Ruth Vestal of Brownsville and Betty Davis of Somerville. She leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren: Misti Black (Patrick) of Brownsville, Justin Marlar (Holly) of Germantown, TN, Ryan England (Molly) of Madison, AL, Adam Marlar (Ashley) of Huntsville, AL, Caroline Thompson (Whitt) of Germantown, TN, Lauren Marlar of Princeton, LA, Morgan Hayes (Alex) of Maryville, TN, Landon and Preston Marlar of Bossier City, LA; 13 great-grandchildren: Maranda Cozart (Houston), Drake Moore, Leighton, Andi, Ashton, Dylan, and Landon Marlar, Davis, Briggs and Fisher England. Weston, Bridger and Etta Rae Thompson; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Ella Kaye Cozart. We would like to say Thank You – to our immediate family members to whom thank you is truly not enough. To Ruth Vestal and Betty Davis, to a loving and caring church family in Michigan, a loving and caring church family in Franklin, and then the staff at Bells Nursing Home who have relentlessly cared for and loved on Mom, to those of you who prayed for her, for us, the cards received. The calls, texts, and notes we received just when we needed an encouraging word. So many were needed as caregivers for our mother during this season of life. And for that we thank God for all of you.
