Mattie Kersey Mann passed gently into Heaven Wednesday afternoon. Mattie was 87 and lived a life of love, generosity and caring. Mattie was born in McRae, Georgia to Otto and Nora Kersey. While in her early 20s, she met her soul mate, Marshall H. Mann, and they were married on October 5, 1947. In August of 1997, Marshall preceded her into Heaven, where they are now united once again. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Kersey Baxter and brother, Verlyn Kersey.

Known and loved for her gentle spirit, Mattie was the most giving and loving Mother and Nana anyone could ever hope for. She continuously sacrificed her own wants and needs to fill the desires of her children, John H. Mann and Caryn L. Reynolds, and her grandchildren, John R. Shackelford, Caitlyn S. Reynolds and Justin S. Reynolds, all of Huntsville.

Mattie served her Lord and the staff and families of University Baptist Church of Huntsville as their Secretary, beginning this career in 1964 shortly after the family moved to Huntsville from Columbus, Georgia. She eventually retired as the Senior Pastor’s Administrative Assistant. Always wanting to stay busy, she spent time during her retirement years working as a bookkeeper and customer relations representative for Brian’s Tire Service on Putman Drive in Huntsville.

A Memorial Service is being planned at University Baptist Church, on Jordan Lane, and details will be announced. No flowers, please. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International.
