Mary W. Underwood affectionally known as “Billie”, of Sheffield, AL, 96 years of age died on Wednesday 10/23/2024.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday 10/26/2024 at the Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama with visitation between 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon.
She is survived by her children Mary Kay Johnson (Chandler) and Thomas K. McCarley (Myra), grandchildren Alex McCarley, Mark McCarley, step-grandchildren Rusty Thrasher and Tyler Thrasher, nieces Linda A. Doss, Gloria Lovell, Debbie Davis, grandnieces Beth W. Workman, Mae Margaret Davis, Annie C. Davis, grandnephew Ryan Lovell and great grandnephews Stetson Lovell and Walker Lovell.
She was preceded in death by son Kim and infant daughter, parents William A. Farned and Lillian Christian Farned, sisters Annie Ruth Underwood and Sarah F. Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Chandler Johnson, David Lovell, Ryan Lovell, Edward Braman, Tyler Thrasher, Terry Parsons, David Eckl, and Charles Williamson.
Billie enjoyed biking and swimming. She began competing in the state Senior Olympics beginning in 1999. She won multiple metals in swimming competitions. She was grateful for her good health and kept an active lifestyle.
Billie credited her faith with getting through the day. She believed that she had a choice to be sad or to be happy when getting out of bed each day, and she chose to be happy each day.
