Mary Tinker Bryant, a beloved member of the Jackson community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at her residence in Jackson, Tennessee. She was surrounded by her loving husband Pete Bryant and leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication.
She was born on February 29, 1944, in Jackson, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Arnold Ray and Jewell Reed Tinker. She excelled academically as a 1962 graduate of Jackson High School and earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis at Lambuth (formerly known as Lambuth College). Her thirst for knowledge never waned, and she remained an avid lifelong learner. She was a member of the Former Andrews Chapel Methodist Church.
Mary had a long and fulfilling career as an educator, devoting a remarkable thirty-one years to teaching children in Madison County. Throughout her career, she made a significant impact on countless young lives through her work at Beech Bluff, Nova, North Side Middle School, and Parkway Middle School. Her commitment to education was unwavering, and she will be remembered as a compassionate mentor who inspired her students to strive for greatness.
Outside of her professional life, Mary embraced the joys of family and cultivated meaningful relationships. She was a devoted wife to Pete Bryant and a loving mother to Samuel T. Bryant. Mary cherished every moment spent with her family and created lasting memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Mary’s faith played a paramount role in her life. As an active member of the Explorer Bible Study Group, she found strength and guidance through the teachings of Scripture. Her unwavering faith gave her the foundation to face life’s challenges with grace and resilience.
Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Tinker and his wife Lucy Turner Tinker and Warren Tinker.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Pete Bryant, her loving son, Samuel T. Bryant, and her devoted sister-in-law, Josephine Hargett Tinker. The loss of Mary will be felt deeply by her family and friends, who will forever cherish the moments shared and the love she bestowed upon them.
SERVICE: A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Bill Williamson officiating.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, November 26, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until the service time at 3:00 p.m.
Mary’s departure has left a void in our hearts but has also given us an opportunity to reflect on her remarkable life. Her kindness, passion for education, love for her family, and unwavering faith will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
