Mary Sue Smith Lee, 88, of Huntsville, AL, died May 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Creighton “Jack” C. Lee; daughter, Terry Smith Sjoholm (Marc); son, Frank S. Smith (Kelli); sister, Glenda Wright; grandchildren, Tiffany Brewer, Lindsey Smith, Amanda Brewer Landry, Carsen Smith, Cheney Smith, and Jamie Hardiman; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Albert Lee Smith, Jr.; son, Albert Lee Smith III; parents, Francis and Glenn Wright; brothers, Herman Shuford Wilkie, John Thomas Wright, and Francis Lloyd Wright (Skeetz); and sisters, Peggy Gaskins and Ruth Staten.
Mrs. Lee was a longtime member of Mayfair Church of Christ. Sue was born in Tippo, MS and comes from a family of 9 siblings. They later moved to Charleston, MS where she attended Charleston High School and where she played basketball and ran track. Growing up she was a member of f the Charleston Baptist Church. She later met and married Albert Lee Smith, Jr. and started attending the Charleston Church of Christ. They moved to Huntsville in 1962 and began their careers at Madison Academy and remained in Huntsville. She worked at several local businesses as a bookkeeper. After Albert’s death in 1992, she retired for a brief period before she accepted a job with Lee Builders. Sue and Jack Lee started dating in 1999 and, after a brief romance, they married in 2000. She was then blessed with having an extended bonus family with Jack’s children, Joe Lee (Rita Linda), Jackie Snead (Mike), Jeff Lee, (deceased), Lynn Gray (Steve), Bruce Lee, Linda Killian (Mike), Bobby Lee (Linda Pat), and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Mayfair Church of Christ. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Gary Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Charleston, Mississippi.
