Mary Sue Payne Blocker, 87, retired employee of Grover’s Market and longtime resident of the Hampshire Community, died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in South Point-Edwards Cemetery in Hampshire. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born October 24, 1930 in Hickman County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Enlow Payne and the late Sallie Wilson Anderson Payne. On January 11, 1952, she married Carl Hunter Blocker who preceded her in death December 19, 1998. She was a 1949 graduate of Donelson High School. Mrs. Blocker retired after twenty-plus years as cashier at Grover’s Market in Hampshire. She was an avid basketball fan and was a very enthusiastic supporter of the sports activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Brannon of Bryant Station, Nancy (Mark) Jones of Hampshire, Carla (Kevin) Demastus of Columbia, Sam (Ronnie) Jones of Hampshire, Paul (Michele) Blocker of Culleoka, Lucy (Keith) Demastus of Culleoka; brother, Bobby Payne of Columbia; brother-in-law, David Westmoreland of Columbia; sister-in-law, Elva Jean Payne of Columbia; grandchildren, Mandy Brannon, Stephanie (Michael) Lampley, Billy Carl Brannon, Christopher (Michelle) Jones, JonPaul (Lisa) Jones, Rachel (Michael) Lawson, Heather (Jason) Hardison, Rebecca Norton, Cody Payne Jones, Dustin Blocker, Daniel (Allison) Blocker, Taylor Blocker (Neal) Tatum, Hanna Blocker, Adam (Ashley) Demastus; and thirty great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joe Brannon.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will include Elders of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ and Cecil Whiteside.
