Mary Sue Gann, one of Chickasaw Counties most colorful citizens, laid down her earthly mantle and crossed the chilling waters of Jordan to meet her Savior and reunite with her loved ones gone before. Sue died at North Miss. Medical Center on Friday, March 29, 2024, after struggling with kidney failure. She was 84 years old. Born in Chickasaw Co on Sept 18, 1939 to the late Edwin Davis and Millie Whitt Davis Lucius, she lived most all her life in the country near Houlka. On April 13, 1957, she married the love of her life, Walter Evans Gann, in Okolona. He died on Jan 23, 1990. Her first work was that of a master beautician, making friends with folks all over Chickasaw County. Her customers loved her work and her wonderful stories. An avid conversationalist, she spent the next 35 years of her life as Clerk of the Justice Court, East side, in Chickasaw County. It was there she found her real calling, being a public servant! Sue absolutely loved this job! She was a beloved fixture in the Okolona Courthouse and was revered by the Justice Court Judges she served under, esp. the late Judge Judy Posey. Born with a great personality and quick wit, she used this to serve her God, community and family and found great satisfaction following the Golden Rule. She was a longtime faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church and later in life attended Faith Outreach. When not working, Sue enjoyed word search puzzles, watching cooking shows on TV, arts and crafts, painting (including painting the baptistery in Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona) . Her servant heart and love of her fellowman will long be remembered by family and friends everywhere.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM, Monday, April 1, 2024 (April Fool’s Day) in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Pastor Jimmy Bryan, Bro Danny Owen and Bro. Bobby Long officiating. Private burial will follow in Halsell Cemetery in the Shiloh Community of Chickasaw Co. Friends may visit from 12 Noon-2 PM on Monday, all at Holland-Okolona Chapel.

Her foster children, Virginia Bullard, Martha Houston, Sandra Russell and Tena Hester and all their families whom she loved; her step siblings, Wayne Lovvorn, Mamie Turner, and Brenda Harville and their families; a special friend closer than a sister, Sarah Flake of Hamilton, MS.
