Mary Ruth Lewis passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, at her home in Athens at the age of 84. She was born on February 1st, 1938, to William P and Marjorie V Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Kay Tate of Huntsville, and grandchildren Brock Tate of Fairhope, and Haley Dozier of Huntsville, and great grandchildren Ella Grace, Madelyn, and Sawyer Dozier of Huntsville, and Charlee Tate of Fairhope. Mary is also survived by five siblings, Gayle Penley, Jimmy Davis, Ted Davis of Athens, Shelby Nelson of Huntsville, and Suzette Davis of Loveland, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James Coy Lewis, and by her brother Billy W. Davis.
Mary was a good older sister to six siblings and set a good example in life for them to follow. She graduated from West Limestone High School and had fond memories of her cheerleading days and classmates. Mary worked for South Central Bell for 37 years and prepared herself well to be the primary caregiver of her mother in her later years. Her daughter Kay is most thankful for Mary’s caregivers Rose Willcutt and Amanda Guy. Mary was also under the care of Hospice of North Alabama.
Mary was a life-long member of Eastside Church of Christ. Steve Klein of Eastside will officiate the funeral along with Mrs. Lewis’s Brother, Ted Davis.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8th, 2022, at 3 pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time.
Pallbearers will be Brock Tate, Jerrod Dozier, Vance Davis, Greg Penley, Bryant Davis, Brad Christopher, and Jordan Nelson.
