Mary Rae Roszell McNew, 80, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Mary was born on August 27, 1943, to Raymond and Marie Roszell in Richmond, Indiana. After graduating from Boston High School in 1962, Mary went on to study cosmetology and worked for several years as a cosmetologist.
In 1959, while students at Boston High School, Mary met Harlan and they wed June 6, 1964. They have two children, Brian Ray McNew and Audra McNew Wiginton. Mary’s greatest love was raising her family and quietly serving those in need. Her ministries included leading a neighborhood Bible Study, preparing meals for those in difficult times, acting as a caregiver, and serving at Manna House. Mary enjoyed hosting friends and family and creating a warm and welcoming home. After raising her children, Mary worked at Covenant Christian Academy until 2000 and the arrival of her four adored grandchildren. As a grandmother, Mary was an active participant in their lives and their favorite activities and hobbies.
Mary was predeceased by her sister, Peggy Potter. Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harlan; her children, Brian (Jill) McNew and Audra (Dwayne) Wiginton; her four grandchildren, Bryce Wiginton, Sara Laine McNew, Wade Wiginton, and Lakin McNew; and siblings, Jo Vornauf, Ruth Ullery, and James Roszell (Kathy), along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life service following in the chapel. A private graveside service will be held at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
In remembrance of Mary’s life and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manna House, Hospice Family Care, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
