Mary Nell Guinn White, age 84, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at her home in Savannah.
Mrs. White was born in Savannah, TN July 15, 1937, the daughter of the late Edwin DeFord Guinn and Kate Roberta Goodwin Guinn. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1954 and Memphis State in 1957 with a business degree. She taught fifth grade at Vollontine Elementary in Memphis until 1964. She lived in Houston, Texas a few years and moved to Henderson in 1972.
She began her career with Chickasaw Area Development Agency, now Southwest Human Resource Agency in the Head Start program. She retired as the agency’s director of seven counties.
She married Simon H. White in 1988 and they lived in Savannah and she continued to maintain her home in Henderson. Mr. White preceded in death in 2006.
She was a member of the Memphis State Delta Alpha Pi Sorority and the Bon Tres Club in Henderson. She enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Guinn Johnson Thomas and a grandson Ethan Joyner Thomas both of Memphis.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, and a brother Dan McCain Guinn.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday June 14th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Dr. Billy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will received friends beginning at 11:00 AM Tuesday June 14, 2022.
