Mary Martin Hiatt, of Huntsville, passed away on December 26, 2023. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was born on November 11, 1927, in West Lancaster, Iowa, to Glen and Ethel Martin. Mary lived most of her adult life in Nebraska. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and warmth, and will be forever lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones and to the Lord.

Mary loved to spend time with her family and was well known by loved ones for her competitive spirit in dominoes and other family pastimes. She dedicated herself to a career in nursing, where her caring nature, kindness, and expertise provided comfort and healing to numerous lives. Mary was an avid reader, a lifelong learner who was curious and knowledgeable about wide-ranging topics. Her many hobbies included quilting, which she pursued with a passion, and especially enjoyed sharing it with her granddaughters and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, David Hiatt (Audrey), Richard Hiatt (Loretta), and Janet Hiatt Dailey; her two grandchildren, Deanna and Danielle; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Robert Hiatt, whose love, and companionship for each other were unwavering.

Mary’s life will be celebrated in a visitation on Saturday, December 30, 10-11 AM, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville. A service, to be held in Nebraska, will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Our Daily Bread.
