Mary Kornegay Whitsett passed away on Saturday October 26th at the age of 75.
Born in Dothan, Alabama, on August 29th, 1949, Mary Lou was every bit “The Baby” of the family. To know Mrs. Whitsett was to know the meaning of feeling special and loved for who you are. Her inimitable way of putting others before herself was only rivalled by the warmth expressed in her laughter and big hugs.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Crawford and Lula Kornegay, her brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Rita Kornegay, and her nephew, Jeff Baker.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Thomas “Marty” Whitsett; sisters, Linda Baker (AJ) and Louetta Kornegay; daughters, Susan and Maranda and their husbands, Francisco and George; her nephew, Greg; nieces Ranada, Latasha, and Lounella; grandchildren, Lee, Alexandra, Natalie, Madeline and her husband, Michael, Mary Grace, and Aaron “AJ”; as well as her much adored great-grandchildren, Eloise, Theo, and Oliver; and the innumerable family friends, including Audrey, Olivia, and Jacob, who Mary readily embraced as family.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
