Mary K. (Katie) Fetter, 99 of Athens, AL passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Limestone Health Facility. She was born August 19, 1922 in Athens to Jimmy and Grace Dement. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence Elmore, husband George W. Fetter, brother, Jerry Dement and son-in-law Bill Mullins. Survived by sons Phillip (Lois) Elmore, Brownsboro, AL; daughter Kathy Mullins, Athens, AL; and Ronnie (Angie) Elmore, Franklin, TN; stepchildren Butch (George M.) Fetter and Sonjia Jackson, Athens, AL; grandchildren Lori Macielag, Doug Mullins, Grant Mullins, Leslie Wagner, Heather Enskat, Drew Elmore, and Ingrid Stevens; five step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three great, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 2:00pm at Spry Funeral Home, Athens, Al. Officiants will be Kenny Baskins and Jack McDaniel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at Spry Funeral Home.
Katie was a devoted homemaker who enriched many lives. She graduated from Athens High School and was one of the last surviving members of the Class of 1939. The caption on her yearbook picture said it all, “The mildest manners and the gentlest heart”. She was a member of and active in Athens First United Methodist Church. She was also active in The American Legion Auxiliary and was named Alabama Unit Member of the Year in 2001. Katie loved the Crimson Tide, the Atlanta Braves and country music. She was a part of ‘The Greatest Generation’ and a true Southern lady.
