Mary Jo WilliamsMary Jo Walter Williams, age 96, of Union Grove, Alabama passed away at her residence on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Mary Jo was born in Morgan County, AL on June 20, 1928. She was one of eight children born to George W. Walter and Charlotte “Lottie” Emma Lipscomb Walter. Mary Jo was well known and highly thought of as a contributing member of the Morgan City community of which she lived the majority of her life. She was a graduate of Union Hill School and married W C R “Dub” Williams in 1949. They were married for 60 years before Dub’s death in 2010. Mary Jo and “Dub” co-owned and ran WCR Williams Oil Company and raised their family in Lacey’s Spring. Mary Jo was of the Baptist faith and a member of New Canaan Baptist Church. She was also a founding member of the Morgan City Ladies Choir.
Mary Jo was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to cook for her friends and family and enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and working puzzles. Mary Jo was a devout follower and servant of our Lord and Savior. She was a true believer in the power of prayer and had a fierce love for her family and the Lord. Ever an optimist, she lived her life with a grateful heart, ready to serve others, and always credited the Lord for her many blessings. She was deeply loved by her community and all who knew her.
Family members Mary Jo leaves behind to cherish memories include her son, Tony Williams; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Jo and Al Craig; grandchild, Alana Craig Thompson (Patrick); great grandchildren, Lindley Thompson and Pierce Thompson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mary Jo in death include her husband, WCR Williams, parents, George and Charlotte Walter; brothers, Phil Walter, Rudolph Walter, Robert Walter, and Otto Walter; sisters, Catherine Walter Loosier, Sarah Walter Owen, and Dolly Walter Owen.
Services for Ms. Williams will be Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City. The family will receive friends and guests beginning at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service, which Brother Eldridge Criscoe will officiate, will begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rescue Cemetery.
Arrangement entrusted to Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
