Mary Jane Dexter Waldrep – Obituary

Mary Jane Dexter Waldrep, 83, of Cherokee, Alabama, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Waldrep was a lifelong member of Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for over thirty years. She was formerly employed for thirty years as a secretary and substitute teacher at Allsboro Junior High School. She also made birthday cakes and was a wedding caterer for twenty years. Mrs. Waldrep loved square dancing, and enjoyed traveling to the mountains with her square dancing friends. She also enjoyed sewing, and loved being a grandmother. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Don Thomas, Rev. Scott Sealy, and Rev. J. B. Burns. Interment will follow in Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday. Pallbearers include Ronnie Dexter, Donnie Dexter, Patrick Curtin, Lyn Waldrep, Jeffery Whitaker, and Luther Bishop. Honorary Pallbearers include L. O. Bishop, Jeff Whitaker, Pat Waldrep, and Raymond Wallace. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, George “Mac” Waldrep of Cherokee, AL; two sons, George Dexter Waldrep and wife, Melba, of Florence, AL, and Malcolm Patrick Waldrep and wife, Wanda, of Cherokee, AL; one daughter, Dale Waldrep Johnson and husband, Jimmy, of Cherokee, AL; and one grandchild, Britney Waldrep of Huntsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lutie Taylor Dexter; and a brother, Will Taylor Dexter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church Children’s Fund, 50 L. O. Bishop Lane, Cherokee, AL 35616.
