Mary Faye Trimble Dunn, 53, of Decatur, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at UAB in Birmingham.
Mary Faye was named after her mother’s two sisters and she shared the best qualities of both. She was born August 16, 1961, to Ina Virginia Lewis Trimble and James Mahlon Trimble, both deceased. She was preceded in death far too early by her husband, Steven Ray Dunn. She is survived by her sons, Steven Tyrone Dunn, 20 and Daniel Payton Dunn, 19, both of Decatur; her brother, Roy Trimble and his wife, Karlenne, of Atlanta, Georgia; and by her “dear and special love and friend,” Eddie Hubbard. As well as aunts, uncles and cousins all over the country.
Mary Faye graduated from Decatur High School and attended Calhoun Junior College. She studied to become a dental assistant and worked in the field for 17 years. Then she became a stay at home mom to raise her sons. Later, she began to offer cleaning services and eventually joined the Eagles Lodge full-time in that capacity.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mary Faye was generous with her energies and time and often participated in events and benefits to help people in need. She volunteered at her sons’ school. Every Christmas, she baked dozens and dozens of banana bread loaves to share with friends and family. Other than her sons, sharing with others is perhaps her greatest legacy. Even when she didn’t have much to give, she found ways to contribute. She found ways to help. The world lost a good person. And many of us lost a great friend.
We thank all the healthcare professionals who helped Mary Faye get the most out of this last year. Their kindness and caring made all the difference. She always greeted them with a smile. And left them with a cheery “Thank You! Have a great day!”
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to your favorite charity or to Hospice of the Valley (hospiceofthevalley.net) or to UAB Palliative and Comfort Care Unit (uab.edu/medicine/palliativecare/) or the Decatur Morgan Foundation (decaturgeneral.org/foundation/donate.php).
A visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shelton Funeral Home, 2105 Beltline Rd. SW, Decatur, AL 35601. The service will be at 1 p.m. with burial in Burningtree Cemetery.
