Mrs. Mary Evelyn Benson, 87, died Friday, August 12, 2016 at Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas after an extended illness. She was born March 22, 1929 in Brewer (Lee Co.), MS. She lived all of her life in the Tupelo area as a homemaker. She loved cooking, crocheting during her younger years, and listening to gospel music and preaching. She was a kind soul with a giving heart, whose happiness came from caring for others her entire life. She was a faithful member of Harrisburg Baptist Church before moving to Jonesboro, Ark. six years ago to be near her daughter, Gloria.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be today (Monday) from 5 PM to 7 PM and Tuesday from 1 PM to service time, all at the funeral home. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Abbott (Dave) of Jonesboro, Ark; her siblings, Allene Earrey and Mack Baldwyn (Sue), all of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Mary Kate Swindle (Brian), Chad Cobb, and Elizabeth Poynter (Scott); great-grandchildren, Peyton Pigott, Jack Cobb, Ty Swindle, Piper Swindle, Trip Swindle, and Emory Poynter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ozell Baldwyn; late husband, Johnny Benson; daughter, Georgia Ann Benson; son, Michael Benson, and son-in-law, Larry Cobb.
Pallbearers will be Peyton Pigott, Jack Cobb, Ty Swindle, Randy Rogers, Cody Rogers, Ken Carson, Wayne Mask, and Randy Benson.
