On Saturday, Oct 7, 2023, Mary Estelle Haygood Glasscock fell asleep in death, surrounded by the love of her family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct 11 from 6-8pm at Greenview Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will be Thursday, Oct 12 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Brother David Wilson will officiate.
Mrs. Glasscock was a native of Florence, Alabama and spent most of her 95 years in the Shoals. She gave so much of herself, her love and her talents, in service to others in her community. She was a faithful servant of Jehovah for 65 years and fearlessly proclaimed her faith in a future where sickness and death will be no more. She shared God’s promise of a new world with no more pain, described in Isaiah 33:24 and Revelation 21:3 & 4.
She lived her life exactly the way she wanted and enjoyed every minute to the fullest-from parasailing to cuddling grandbabies. Throughout her life, she worked as a waitress, a seamstress, an artist, a caretaker and a volunteer. She has touched, changed and enriched countless lives with her thoughtfulness and generosity. Everyone she knew called her “Granny” and that’s how she wanted it. She loved Jehovah and her family above all else. There will never be another soul like her. She left a gorgeous legacy for those who have been blessed to share her life and love. To say she will be missed, is an understatement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Glasscock; mother, Mable Viola Haygood; father, Noah Franklin Haygood; brother, James Bradford Haygood; sister, Mae Etoyle Robinson; grandson, Bryan Mitchell Glasscock; great-grandson Baylee Mitchell Glasscock.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Gail Olson and Alice Kaye McNair (David); son, Fred Glasscock Jr; grandchildren Charles Jeffrey Olson (Ashley), Dana Lynn Sciacca (John), Alicia Dawn Carter, Joseph Quentin Glasscock (Jamie), Keely Leann Law, and David Lee McNair II (Carrie), 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Olson, Quentin Glasscock, Davey McNair, Braeden Olson, Holden Law, Carter Glasscock, Asher Olson.
