Mary Emma Hall, age 92 of Estill Springs, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Bakertown, Tennessee on March 14, 1932, to the late Charles “Charlie” Elton and Gladys Emmeline (Nichols) Scales. She was the 1950 valedictorian of Antioch High School. After high school, Mary worked in Nashville for an insurance company while attending Belmont College at night. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Earl Hall, at his uncle’s home. From 1958-1974, the couple lived in Franklin County and Mary worked at the Franklin County Library, where she eventually became head librarian. They then moved to Chattanooga, where they lived from 1974-1990. During this time, she got her associates degree from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. The Hall family moved back to Franklin County in 1990 and built a home on the land that Mary’s family owned. It was in this home that the Halls enjoyed hosting many family events and special occasions including Christmas parties for church Sunday School. Mary was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Winchester and had taught the five-year-old Sunday School class with Sara Swafford for many years. She was very active in her children’s activities both in school and church. She always cherished the time spent with her beloved family, especially the holidays when she hung each member’s stocking that she had made for them by the fireplace. Before her husband’s death, they enjoyed traveling the world to visit family and friends, attend family events, as well as meetings with Earl’s work with AgCredit. Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, and quilting. She also enjoyed working in her garden, where she had a rose bush for every grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hall; and sister, Marguerite Neal. Mary is survived by her loving children, David (Nan) Hall, Mickey (Melissa) Hall, Cathy (Rick) Bean, and Charles Hall; grandchildren, Michelle (Larry) Bello. Michael Hall, Mitchell Hall, Mary (Ben) Baker, Rebecca (Nick) Sterrett, Emma (Joey) Martz, Sarah Hall, Eric (Kirstin) Bean, Laura (Tony) Bean-Allen, Liam Hall, Logan Hall, and Avant Hall; fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Bobby Scales and Danny (Ann) Scales; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12-3pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Ministers Eric Bean and Pam Pilote officiating. The family of Mary Hall would like to express thanks to Hospice Compassus, especially loving caregivers Beth Taylor and Pam McReynolds, for their love and compassion. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2222
