Mary Ellen  Weddington Mary Ellen Weddington, age 76 of Decherd passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville. A native of Franklin County, she was born on September 13, 1944 to the late John Clint and Vera Ellen Jernigan Powers. The oldest girl out of 12 children, she was always a mother hen to all of her family, and even though she never had any children of her own, she treated and cared for all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She was employed for 50 years at Tennessee Apparel Corp. as a seamstress and in her younger years she was an active member of the Wilson Avenue Church of Christ. Mary loved gardening, cooking and canning, but most of all she loved spending time with her family In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby David Weddington; and brothers, Charles Samuel Powers, Jerry William “Red” Powers. She is survived by her brothers, Roy Clint (Jimmie) Powers of Nashville, George David (Bettye Sue) Powers of Decherd, Claude Donald (Karen) Powers of Winchester, Richard M. “Mickey” (Linda Faye) Powers of Decherd, Randall Butler “Randy” (Shelia) Powers of St. John, Indiana, Robert Kent “Bobby” (Rachael) Powers of Decherd, Paul Jernigan(Cindy) Powers of Decherd; sisters, Sara (Donny) Penny of Decherd, Tena (Bobby) Taylor of Decherd; 27 nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
